- One of the greatest McTell masterpieces! The Vocalion Broke Down Engine is one of the best blues records ever. This one is in perfectly respectable shape for a McTell Vocalion but is a little tricky to grade. Visually, it has a couple light scratchs but overall doesn't have that much in the way of surface rubbing or handling marks. But it does have a dullness to the overall surface. Almost like sombody only played it a couple times but with a really dull needle. Or possibly just a weak pressing? Aurally the broke down engine side plays very well! Guitar and Vocals are loud and clear with the just slightest peak distortion over a gentle, moderate noise floor. The other side is the same but has slight stripping throughout in the high vocal parts. I've had a couple Vocalion McTells through and this is the best condition I've seen so far. Wish I could keep it!
