| Description |
Californian singer, bandleader and songwriter Eddy Howard (1914-1963) came to prominence as vocalist with the Dick Jurgens band from 1934-1940, before forming his own orchestra in 1941. This was a popular ‘sweet’ band that lasted until the 60s. Eddy sang in a pleasant, warmly romantic style that was redolent of nostalgia. It was a style that brought him two massive, million-selling Number One hits in Jay Livingston’s To Each His Own and the 1951 It’s No Sin, and a total of 49 chart hits. Among his compositions was his band’s theme song Careless.
Living Era’s To Each His Own presents 27 of Eddy Howard’s best recordings, showing how little he deserves to be forgotten since his death at the age of 48 – he should be rubbing shoulders still with the Comos and Sinatras. They include no fewer than 13 Top Ten hits such as My Adobe Hacienda, I Wonder I Wonder I Wonder, I Love You For Sentimental Reasons and Room Full Of Roses. Three fine tracks have him backed by a star-studded Teddy Wilson Orchestra. |
