| Description |
James Francis Durante (1893-1980) - called Schnozzle because of his oversized, bulbous nose - was one of the most engaging personas in showbusiness with his gravelly voice and raucous, often self-mocking clowning. This much-beloved comedian, actor, composer, singer and pianist (he played superb ragtime) started in vaudeville and became star of many Broadway shows and movies. Though much imitated, he was inimitable.
Jimmy is the second of Living Eras Radio Stars of America (following on from Bing Crosby CD AJA 5590). Ten extended excerpts from radio shows present him in his element, enjoying banter and songs with celebrity guests. These include Bing Crosby, Dick Haymes, Bob Hope, Talullah Bankhead, Eddie Cantor, Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra! |
