| Description |
Vito Rocco Farinola (b.1928), internationally famous as Vic Damone, was the archetypal Italian-American crooner. From starting out as a Frank Sinatra copyist in the mid-Forties, his own style quickly blossomed so that there were soon few practitioners of the art of romantic ballad singing to equal him. By 1949 he was one of the biggest singing stars in America, and his popularity has stood the test of time. Sinatra himself said Vic possessed "the best set of pipes in the business".
Again is Living Era's tribute to the young singer during his rise to superstardom. The title track was his first big success and was one of two million sellers during 1949, the other being You're Breaking My Heart. Based on Leoncavallo, this great track also has Vic Damone singing in Italian, as do I Have But One Heart (a No.7 hit), Just Say I Love Her (a No.13 hit), Come Back To Sorrento and Tell Me You Love Me (also based on Leoncavallo, from Vesti la giubba)
All the early hits are included, his rich baritone giving fine performances such as Tzena, Tzena, Tzena (No.6), My Heart Cries For You (No.4), You Do (No.7), or My Bolero (No.10). |
