| Description |
The essential roots of Country music came from the folksongs of Europe mingled with the rhythms of Africa. One highly distinctive element was imported from the mountain regions of Switzerland and Austria, the yodel. Crucially, the style was utilised by Jimmie Rodgers in the 1920s and it became a very popular part of Country and particularly Cowboy singing. This JASMINE window on Country yodelling features some of the most famous of all yodellers, plus a few big names like Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow and Eddy Arnold showing off the skill early in their careers. A comprehensive sleeve note makes this CD both informative and entertaining. |
