| Description |
This CD opens with the first date made by Hodges' own band upon leaving Duke Ellington. The four tracks made in mid-January were recorded when Hodges was still on Ellington's payroll. Al Sears acted as musical director of the new Hodges combo and knew very well that Norman Granz expected them to make fast money. "Castle Rock" is quite different from the other tracks heard here and became a juke box hit. |
